About this book

With the Springboks in Egypt. A brief description of the 1st South African Infantry Brigade on the Western Frontier of Egypt [1916]

Author: “Captain” (Captain George John Miller killed in action 16 July 1916)

Year: 1916

Digitised by Google Books from the collection at Yale University https://books.google.com/books?id=G_6bQVYvYBoC The author George John Miller served in the campaign in South-West Africa, and then joined the 1st S.A. Infantry, with whom he fought in Egypt, and afterwards in France, until killed in action 16 July 1916. Death details from South Africa War Graves Project https://www.southafricawargraves.org/search/details.php?id=16649 Elsewhere this book is stated to be one of the books in the 1916 Hodder & Stoughton series “The Soldier Books”, although this wording may have only appeared on the cover. For one of the other books in this series, there is a comment that the book had small dimensions “4¾ inches wide x 7¼ inches tall”, so possibly the smaller size made it easier to be carried by a soldier.
