November 1915 Issue of the Washington Chapel Chronicle, the monthly newsletter of the Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge, PA. Progress on the Washington Memorial Chapel Construction continues steadily with the nave nearly complete except for the bay next to the choir arch and the front wall. The intricate tracery of the large Washington window is causing some delays due to the detailed stone cutting required. Despite being unfinished, the interior already impresses visitors, evoking comparisons to the great ruined abbeys of England, but here symbolizing hope and ongoing construction rather than decay. The clustered limestone columns with carved capitals are finished and await the installation of oak trusses that will support the "Roof of the Republic." Commemoration of Washington’s Rectors The Chapel’s sedilia (stone seats near the altar) will honor the rectors who served as George Washington’s spiritual pastors, including those from Truro Parish, Christ Church Alexandria, St. Paul’s Chapel New York, Christ Church Philadelphia, and St. Peter’s Church Philadelphia.
