June 1915 i ssue of the Washington Chapel Chronicle, the monthly newsletter of the Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge, PA. Completion Work on Washington Memorial Chapel On June 7, 1915, construction began on completing the Washington Memorial Chapel, marking a significant milestone after years of preparation and fundraising. Temporary quarters for the sexton were erected, and the roof of the incomplete building was removed to allow further work. Important features such as the Pews of the Patriots, tablets honoring the Signers of the Declaration of Independence and Framers of the Constitution, and the Washington statue are displayed in the temporary chapel where services continue during construction. Bronze tablets commemorating Thaddeus Thompson, John Benjamin, and the Men of the Maine have been placed in the museum awaiting final installation. The work aims to maintain high architectural standards and quality, with monthly progress reports promised. Red Letter Day and Final Service in Temporary Chapel June 6, 1915, was celebrated as a “Red Letter Day” in the Chapel’s history, marking the last service held in the temporary superstructure before its removal for completion of
