August 1912 Issue of the Washington Chapel Chronicle, the monthly newsletter of the Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge, PA. Rev. W. Herbert Burk to Remain at Valley Forge Despite significant financial challenges, including a deficit caused largely by high expenses for house rent and carriage hire, Rev. Burk has decided to continue his work at Valley Forge rather than accept calls elsewhere. His dedication was publicly supported by the Vestry and noted by The Churchman , which praised his nine years of faithful service organizing the Washington Memorial Chapel and expressed optimism about completing the Chapel complex with adequate support. Sunday School Picnic of 1912 The annual Sunday school picnic was a joyous event with ideal weather, games, prizes, and a large family-style meal. The picnic included coach rides decorated with flags, visits to historic sites such as Washington’s Headquarters, and concluded with a supper and ice cream treat. The event was highly successful and well-attended by children and adults from Valley Forge, Port Kennedy, and King-of-Prussia. Raising the Roof on the Chapel Addition Construction is underway to expand the Chapel, with stone deliveries
