April 1912 Issue of the Washington Chapel Chronicle, the monthly newsletter of the Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge, PA. Easter at the Chapel and Dedication of the Washington-Burk Memorial Easter 1912 was a memorable occasion at Washington Memorial Chapel, marked by inspiring services and exceptional choir performances, thanks to the efforts of Miss Hibbs and Miss Pugh. A highlight was the dedication of a bronze statuette memorializing Mrs. Abbie Jessup Reeves Burk. The ceremony included a prayer by Rev. W. Herbert Burk and the unveiling by Abbie Reeves Carter, Mrs. Burk’s namesake. The statuette, designed by Franklin Simmons and imported from Rome via Tiffany & Co., was placed on a specially designed pedestal near the lectern. The memorial inscription honors both George Washington’s perseverance at Valley Forge and Mrs. Burk’s patriotism and devotion. Community and Sunday School Activities The Easter Festival replaced the regular service, with the Sunday School offering totaling $47.15. At King of Prussia, the Easter Festival was notable for the debut of a vested choir led by Miss Mary Pugh. The school, with only 27 members, raised $44.67 for missions, making the total S
