During the First World War, the Canadian Ordnance Corps had three Mobile Ordnance Workshops, which repaired and maintained the artillery and equipment of the Canadian Corps. All their war diaries are on the Internet Archive. These three workshops were the predecessors of the many RCEME units formed during the Second World War. On 7 October 1918, No. 83 Canadian Ordnance Workshop (Medium) was formed to repair and maintain the siege artillery in the Canadian Corps.
