"Uphold Your Revolutionary Traditions!" by John J. Ballam Published in The Daily Worker [Chicago], vol. 3, no. 59 (March 22, 1926), pg. 4. This article from The Daily Worker documents the existence of one shadowy underground communist political organization and two Latvian-language newspapers for which examples do not seem to have survived. Ballam analyzes the Latvian-American radical movement, with which he maintained close ties, noting its division into three segments and its loss of revolutionary enthusiasm. The most radical section, grouped around the newspaper Straadnieks (The Worker), had departed the CPA during the factional war of the early 1920s, failing to reunite at the August 1922 Bridgman convention. Ballam appeals to the rank and file of this group to stop being "misled by blind leaders who vainly imagine that the hands of the revolutionary clock can be set back to 1921." "These comrades are valuable elements and every effort should be made to win them back to the movement by extending the friendly hand of comradeship to them at all times," Ballam declares.
