About this book
[Two almost identical forged Lord Byron letters to Douglas Kinnaird]
Author: Byron, George G. (George Gordon) (pseud.) de Gibler, George [‘Mayor Byron’]
Year: 1822
4to. pp. 2; pp. 2. Two almost identical Lord Byron letters to Douglas Kinnaird, forged by the notorious George de Gibler, a.k.a. ‘Major Byron’, whose output of Romantic spuria took in many of the most knowledgeable collectors and critics in the mid-century, and still infect biographical studies today. The two texts have appropriate (faked) Italian postal markings, testimony to De Gibler’s confidence that two rival collectors would never compare their possessions. One letter is published in part by L.A. Marchand (ed.), Byron’s Letters and Journals, London, 1979, IX, p. 208, as genuine. Click here to view the Johns Hopkins University catalog record.
