About this book

The Words of Lockman (Lukmanthe Wise) To His Son From Clarke's Commentary Old Testament, Vol. 3 Job Song Of Solomon

Author: Adam Clarke

Year: 1831

Adam Clark was a famous Methodist Bible Commentator. In his commentary on Proverbs he included several appendices dealing with Asiatic (what we would now consider Middle/Near Eastern) wisdom texts and proverbs. This one in particular deals with the sayings of Lukman The Wise (as/ra. His name is sometimes transliterated a Luqman) to his son. Lukman (as/ra) is celebrated for his wisdom in Both Islam and Coptic Christianity. Chapter 31 of the Quran is named after him, which recounts his story. His sayings have also been used, approvingly in Coptic homilies.
