Illinois schoolteacher; contracted tuberculosis and went to the mountains of the American West for her health; married a farmer 28 years older; after years of drought and defeat, migrated with their nine-year-old son to the Peace River district, 1918; died at Fort Vermilion ( Edmonton Journal , July 8, 1967). // A series of letters written to friends between 1919 and 1927, and first published in Atlantic Monthly in 1927. About one-third of the book deals with her Canadian experience. Also published, Boston: Little, Brown & Co., 1931; s.l.: s.n., 1935.
