About this book
The Steam Locomotive
Author: E. L. Ahrons, M.I.Mech.E.
Year: 1920
The aim of this volume is to describe the chief parts of a modern locomotive and their functions in a manner which will prove useful to the engineering student and others who are interested. Within the limits of the space available the reasons which have led to the adoption of some of the principal parts have been added. The descriptive chapters deal with the boiler and i's more important adjuncts ; the engine, including the mechanism and valve gear; the carriage and framing and the tender. Chapters on compounding and superheating have also been added, which it is hoped will make these portions of the subject intelligible.
