About this book
The Psalms of David pointed to the eight Gregorian tones as given in the Sarum tonale
Author: Palmer, George Herbert, 1846-1926
Year: 1894
"INTRODUCTION The primary object of this work is to exhibit a method of 'pointing' by means of which any Psalm may be sung to any Tone. Where the use of Antiphons is retained, (as e.g. in the Services of Religious Communities,) some such system is obviously necessary, since the melody of the Antiphon determines the Tone and Ending of the Psalm. It is also thought that Quiremasters will find it an advantage to be able to vary the Tones and Endings at their own discretion...." Digitized by Google.
