16 page booklet with two staples for binding. This was a publication printed for a short time in the late 1920s by an attorney in Astoria named Enoch E. Mathison. The title "Poor Fish" comes from a poem by "M. Hathaway," which is printed on the front cover. This booklet was printed every Thursday. The "high aim we hope to accomplish by encouraging spirit and constructive criticism, through our columns." There were articles about local news and interest, answering questions, and a public forum. Mathison was born in 1879 in Norway, and moved to the states in 1883. He had family in Deep River, WA. He worked in a logging camp, on ships, a miner in Alaska, and a sailor and U.S. Marine, a fisherman, a farmer, and a logger. In 1915 he graduated from the University of Oregon with a law degree. In 1917 he married Mathilda Mathison and they had one adopted child named Lucille. (Lucille graduated Astoria High School in 1936.) E.E. Mathison then set up a law firm with Joseph Mannix in 1920. They did civil and criminal cases. Mathison was a member of the Angora Hiking Club, Gamma Eta Gamma law fraternity, Knights of Pythias, Woodmen of the World, and the Clatsop County Bar Association.
