A study of this Publication and No. 32 together will help the dyer and manufacturer (a) to select the methods of dyeing most likely to give a full finished weight, (b) to calculate from the loom weights so as to give instructions for finishing to correct regain and weight. The present work arose out of the problem discussed in Publication No. 32, which deals with the question of the finishing of pieces to correct weight according to the Conditioning House standard of 16%, regain. The object of the work is to investigate the losses or gains of weight resulting from dyeing, so that manufacturers will be in a better position to calculate more accurately the finished weights of their pieces. The results of the work also indicate which classes of dyestuffs give the best yield of finished cloth.
