Author: H M Guest (Herbert Melville)

Digitised by Google Books from the collection of the University of California, see Source below. If necessary, click on Show More, below. The page following the title page says “The following pages describe as accurately as possible the experiences of Klerksdorp during the period just prior to and during the War, and is probably a fair example of what took place in other Transvaal towns during that time. The information is derived from Diaries kept by residents, the personal communications of Dutch and English people who remained during the War, and the details of the first British occupation from some of the principal actors.” Page 20 indicates that the author was the editor and proprietor of the local newspaper in Klerksdorp. He was a member of the Town Guard (page 46).
