It should never be quoted as an authority, but when reference to an authority is required, the paragraph of the Army Regulations should be quoted. It must be clearly understood that no guide book can impart the practical knowledge, absolutely essential to the Army Service Corps, which is only to be gained by observation and practice, but it is hoped that this manual may direct attention to salient points for study, and afford assistance in acquiring experience by practice."
