This manuscript is a copy of the Three Scrolls , written by a Jewish scribe in Yemen. The three scrolls are three short biblical books—namely Song of Songs , Ruth , and Ecclesiastes —which are traditionally read on the three pilgrimage festivals (Passover, Shavu`ot , and Sukkot ). Each book appears in vocalized Hebrew, surrounded by Aramaic Targum, and with the commentary of Rashi below. Copies of the Three Scrolls with Targum and Rashi were common among the Jews of Yemen from the 18th through 20th centuries. This copy is Bibliotheca Rosenthaliana (Amsterdam, Netherlands) Ms. Rosenthaliana 686 (18th or 19th century). At the bottom of the page, parallel to the commentary of Rashi, it also contains the commentary Nahal Eshkol by Rabbi Hayyim Yosef David Azulai.
