Four bridge methods (one of them due to Wien) for obtaining simultaneously the ratio of two capacities and the difference of their power-factors are described. Various sources of error and the requisite methods for eliminating them are discussed. By the use of an auxiliary condenser, two condensers may be compared by substitution. This procedure has the advantage that electrostatic effects are eliminated, and only the relative values of the resistances and inductances of the bridge arms need to be determined accurately.
