A description of the construction and mode of operation of a remote control system in the electrical laboratory of the Bureau of Standards. Electric motors are installed to move contact brushes on the various resistances to be controlled, the switches controlling the different motors being mounted on movable control panels that can be connected to the motor circuits at different points in the laboratory by means of jacks. Each motor can be driven forwards or backwards at two speeds by connecting the armature between a neutral wire and either the positive or negative mains of a 2*120-volt supply or of a 2*10-volt battery, thus making coarse or fine control possible.
