Autobiographical reminiscences of his emigration from New Orleans to San Francisco via ship; to San Jose in 1850; to Marysville in Yuba County, California; the early gold mining days in California; reminiscences of love and hypnotism; and his thoughts on how to be healthy and how to enjoy life. Roughly divided into individual chapters or sections: 1) Reminiscences of an Octogenarian and '49er: From New Orleans to San Francisco 2) Reminiscences of an Octogenarian and '49er: San Jose in 1850 3) Reminiscences of Yuba County by Argonaut & '49er: "It's a long way to Tipperary" 4) Christmas Story of the Early Gold Mining Days in California 5) A Square Deal or Love and Hypnotism 6) How to be healthy, and enjoy life, and how to attain old age. Told in this volume by an old man of 89, still strong, and able to work. Donor information is unknown; donated prior to 1979 to the San Jose Historical Museum.
