About this book

Reed Parent's WWI Letters And Diary

Author: Reed Parent (transcribed by Sarah Hawk)

Year: 1918

Transcribed Diaries and letters home of Reed Stanton Parent describing being drafted and deployed to France with the C Coy, 336th Regiment, American Expeditionary Force. Did not see combat. Describes training, deployment and post war miltiary life. A couple of interesting features; note differences in how he describes things that he sees in France in his diary with what he writes to his sweetheart. He tells everyone back home that he will come back to the farm after seeing Paris. He describes the postwar breakdown of discipline in his unit while soldiers without a mission waited to come home. Note "G" is Gladys Dee Hendrix, his girlfriend and future wife. Document compiled and transcribed by his daughter Sarah Jane Hawk
