Author: Durham Motor Co., Inc. & Robinson Motor Co.
Year: 1923
Six total receipts from two Astoria, Oregon Motor Companies from the 1920s. The first three are from the "Durham Motor Co., Inc." These receipts actually have "Durham-Lovell Motor Co., Inc." across the top, but the "Lovell" part has been marked through. Based on phone books and city directories, the Durham Motor Company was only in business in 1923, and was in a different location: 725 Exchange Street. In the March, 1924 phone directory, the Robinson Motor Company is listed. The last listing is in the April 1929 phone directory. The Robinson Company was also at 725 Exchange. Andrew S Robinson president, Harry V. Robinson vice-president, and Charles V. Robinson secretary/treasurer. These receipts were donated by Martha Dahl, a descendant of both the Robinsons and the Lovells. Trivia note: David Robinson and Walter Robinson are in the city directory as employees at Lovell Auto Company in 1921. Further notes: The customers on all the receipts are mostly historically important people and businesses from Astoria's history: W.C. Quarles, A.L. Dark, Paul Kearney, Finnish Meat Market, Astoria Golf and Country Club, Gallant Auto Company, and Hildebrand & Company. Size of Durham receipts: 5.
