Program and Constitution of the [unified] Communist Party of America (New York: Communist Party of America, 1921). Rare pamphlet published by the [unified] Communist Party of America, adopted at the underground convention held near Woodstock, New York from May 15-28, 1921. The convention joined the United Communist Party (UCP), which was formed the previous year in a merger of the Communist Labor Party (CLP) with the Ruthenberg faction of the [old] Communist Party of America, with the main section of the [old] Communist Party of America (CPA). The convention was held at the Overlook Mountain House hotel, an isolated resort facility that was later destroyed by fire, probably in an arson job by the owner seeking to cash an insurance policy. The unified CPA, an underground (secret) organization, would remain in existence until the first part of 1923, by which time it was supplanted by the Workers Party of America (WPA), a legal organization. This group would change its name again in 1925 before finally emerging as the Communist Party USA in 1929. Note that the name on the cover of this pamphlet is that of Dr. Karl Sandberg, a Chicago dentist, not to be confused with the Socialist poet
