A small group of images from the Tim Dear Snapshot Album, covering pages 9 through 15. These photos offer a glimpse into daily life on the Dear family farm in Oakland, Oregon, and the surrounding community circa 1915–1917. Highlights include a “Royal” tractor in the apple orchards, Aunt Mary holding a bundle of kittens, a farm dog caught in a tense moment with a skunk, high school girls at typewriters, and a group of handsome local boys lounging around what may have been the first automobile in town. Many of the prints show signs of home processing—uneven cuts, rough photo corners, and even a spider embedded in one of the walnut-harvesting prints—suggesting that Tim Dear (b. 1902) may have developed some of these photos himself as a teenager. The album appears to have been handed down from an older sibling, with the original name crossed out on the inside cover and replaced by Tim’s. He graduated from Oakland High School around 1917, and a full school photo later in the album may help identify many of the individuals shown throughout.
