He describes work with participants, planning efforts, description of landscape (including bluffs along rivers), weather, daily activities, appearance of formations and strata, presence and interactions with local settlers and American Indians (several are quite detailed), and collecting, preparing and transporting specimens. Descriptions cover locations in New York, South Dakota (Fort Lookout, Fort Pierre, Vermillion River), and Missouri (Missouri River). Page 113-116 List of expenses.
