Simpson, George (Sir): 1787?-1860. Raised at Dingwall in Scotland; to Canada as employee of HBC, 1820; after the union of HBC and NWC became governor of the Northern Department of Rupert's Land, and later of all HBC territory; knighted, 1841; cousin of Alexander and Thomas Simpson. // Thom, Adam: 1802-1890. Recorder of Rupert's Land, 1838-1849; continued as clerk of the Council of Assiniboia, 1849-1854; said to have written much of Sir George Simpson's Narrative of a journey round the world… from Simpson's notes (Wallace, Dictionary of Canadian biography ). // This work is said to have been prepared by Adam Thom from Simpson's notes. The first three chapters describe Simpson's journey on horseback across the prairies via Fort Carlton and Fort Edmonton.
