DESCRIPTION: Black photo album pages with black and white photos of varying size detailing the experience of Emil Breitkreutz around Inyo County, the Owens Valley, Independence, and Narka Camp of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LA DWP) c. 1906. Several photos show Owens Lake prior to its destruction, which was caused by the City of Los Angeles diverting the lake’s natural creek, stream and river intake sources. Photos appear to be taken between approximately 1905 and 1913, bulk 1906-1907. Item is not within the Inyo County Free Library collection. Item loaned to ICFL by patron for scanning and access purposes. BACKGROUND Emil Breitkreutz (1883-1972) worked as an engineer for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power during the creation of the Los Angeles Aqueduct in the Owens Valley, which was constructed between 1905 and 1913. Following the completion of the aqueduct, Breitkreutz moved to San Marino, Los Angeles County. He continued working for LADWP and was employed by the organization for 42 years in total. Emil Gustav William Breitkreutz (1883-1972) was born in Wisconsin. He won the bronze medal in the 800 meters running competition at the 1904 Olympics in St
