In 1998, John F. Polk transcribed handwritten memories recorded by Esther Winder Polk Lowe (1824-1918) in 1913. Esther was born on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and later married Enoch Louis Lowe, who was elected the youngest-ever Governor of Maryland in 1851. The Lowes lived much of their lives in Annapolis and eventually moved to Brooklyn, New York. The handwritten memories recorded by Esther in 1913 are Manuscript 1949 in the Maryland Historical Society Library and has been published with permission from the society.
