PREFACE. That mind must indeed be dull, and that heart hard, which are not roused and incited to devotion to the dying by the perusal of this little work. Enough, and more than enough, is said to induce all for the rest of their lives to make it their daily duty and their daily practice to help the dying in their extreme necessity in one or more of the various ways indicated. If a few words, by way of preface, are added by the present writer, it is for the purpose of urging very earnestly all who read this work, and reap benefit from it to their own souls, to render some assistance to those to whom they are thus indebted. This little work emanates from the Convent of the Maternal Heart of Mary, at Nottingham, and is one of a series. The community was founded and established a few years ago by his lordship the Bishop of Nottingham, and is doing a good work. The sisters are a nursing community, and are in much request in Nottingham and the neighbourhood for nursing the sick. But besides this, they do a great deal in instructing the ignorant, and those to be received into the Church; in preparing the young and old for the worthy reception of the sacraments, and in other good works.
