Note footnote 177 on page 37 “The word native means the parties were born in India. They might be of European blood or mixed parentage”. Transcribed and annotated by F. E. P. This was very likely Fanny Emily Penny, author of Fort St.George Madras: A Short History of our First Possession in India , published 1900. Fanny Emily Penny was married to Rev. Frank Penny, who was at one time Garrison Chaplain Fort St.George, Madras Ecclesiastical Establishment, the latter the author of The Church in Madras .
