The Malay Annals, translated from Tun Seri Lanang's compilation of Sulalatus Salatin (Arabic: سلالة السلاطين, rumi: Sulālatus-Salāṭīn, Malay: Penurunan segala raja - raja, meaning 'Genealogy of Kings'), is a historical epic literature. Tun Seri Lanang, though not the original author, played a pivotal role in overseeing and compiling the work into a book in Classical Malay, utilizing old Jawi Scripts. He was commissioned for this task by the then regent of Johor, Raja Abdullah, also known as Sultan Abdullah Ma'ayat Shah, Raja Bongsu, Raja Seberang, or Raja di Hilir. This is the translation of Sulalatus Salatin, credited to "The Late Dr. John Leyden" on the cover, was published posthumously in 1821 by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown at Paternoster Row, London
