Lowe's Selection of Popular Country Dances with their Proper Figures as danced in Fashionable Society to which is added a Favorite Quadrille, Polka, Waltz, Schottische, &c&c. Dedicated by Permission to her Royal Highness Victoria Adelaide Mary Louisa, Princess Royal Joseph Lowe (1796-1866) began teaching dance to the children of Queen Victoria in September of 1852, a few months later he created this publication dedicated "By Permission" to the Princess Royal. The collection contains music and dance notation for a variety of social dances, including several novelty dances of a style that were developed in London around 1820. Many of the dances from this collection were used in Joseph's tuition of the Royal Family, including the celebrated "Pop Goes The Weasel".
