Geare, born 1890, was appointed an Officer, 4th Class equivalent to a Captain, in the Army Chaplain’s Department in May 1916. He was a Church of England Chaplain. Initially he took up duties in the Royal Artillery and Royal Engineers’ Depot at Ripon in England. He arrived in France 27 September 1916, and became responsible for the 7th and 9th Battalions, King’s (Liverpool Regiment). He was killed in action 31st July 1917, the day on which the third battle of Ypres began, aged 26.
