Meredith (1799-1873) an American lawyer and politician from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who served as the United States Secretary of the Treasury in President Zachary Taylor's (1784-1850) administration, writes to James Curtis Booth (1810-1888) enclosing Booth's commission as the newly appointed Melter & Refiner of the United States Mint. James Curtis Booth (1810-1888) was Melter & Refiner at the United States Mint in Philadelphia. The James Booth papers are held by the Science History Institute in Philadelphia.
