Handwritten letter to James Curtis Booth (1810-1888) from the James Curtis Booth Papers. Booth, a nineteenth-century analytical chemist, established the first student training laboratory in 1836. He was also the chief melter and refiner of the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. In his letter, Baker requests an analysis of a 5-gallon demijohn of alum water. James Curtis Booth (1810-1888) was Melter & Refiner at the United States Mint in Philadelphia. The James Booth papers are held by the Science History Institute in Philadelphia.
