Armorial bookplate “Loyal je suis” on front pastedown. Pp. 36-38 describe the ballads and romances in the library of the author's friend, Captain Cox of Coventry. The work was part of the collection of John Payne Collier and contains numerous annotations by his hand. It was marked up for a new edition that never appeared. A reprint published in the wake of Sir Walter Scott’s ‘Kenilworth.’ A reprint of the original (see Bib# 1291573/Fr# 261.4 in this collection for a facsimile) published in the wake of Sir Walter Scott’s ‘Kenilworth.’ The ‘Letter’ has been convincingly reattributed to the minor poet William Patten (fl.1540-1589). The elaborate entertainment described took place at Kenilworth during Elizabeth’s extended visit in July 1575, but the most interesting feature of the text, bibliographically, is the list incidentally given of popular books in the lib
