About this book
Keyboard lessons, music, and songs. "Harriet Elkins"
Year: 1806
One professionally bound volume of handwritten music on pre-printed notation paper. The front cover is inscribed "Harriet Elkins" and the inside cover is inscribed "Harriet Elkins, 30," perhaps suggesting that she was 30 years old when the inscription was made and while the book was in use. If that is true, this book was likely used around the year 1806. The first few pages of the volume contain music instructional material, including a list of musical terms with examples followed by a few exercises for keyboard labelled as "lesson." This material is followed by songs with lyrics and keyboard accompaniment. The back cover is inscribed "Salem." Page titles include: “Of musical characters, with explanation of which ought to be committed to memory” (short list of musical terms with examples) “Plain scale ascending” Lesson Blossom Loveliest flower The Wood Cutters Andante There’s nothing true but Heav’n - T Moore - music by L Shaw(?) Bonny Loon - words by B Burns For permission to publish material from this collection, contact research@pem.org Keyboard lessons, keyboard music, and songs with keyboard accompaniment.
