John Carl Hansen was Sarah Winchester's orchard supervisor. He and wife Nellie lived at the Winchester House in San Jose (Calif.) for 28 years until Winchester's death in 1922. In his daybooks, he recorded Sarah Winchester's comings and goings from the house, plantings in the orchard, purchases of supplies and equipment, and events around the property. Excerpts from 1918 ("F.O." is Fair Oaks, where Winchester maintained another residence, in what is now Atherton): Feb 25 Mon. -- Mrs. W. went to F.O. for the day Jun 1 Sat. -- Mrs. w. went to F.O. for a few days Jun 5 Wed. -- Mrs. W. came for a few hours Jun 15 Sat. -- Mrs. W. came back One of 16 daybooks donated to History San Jose in 2008 by Richard Hansen. The originals are held at History San Jose.
