John Carl Hansen was Sarah Winchester's orchard supervisor. He and wife Nellie lived at the Winchester House in San Jose (Calif.) for 28 years until Winchester's death in 1922. In his daybooks, he recorded Sarah Winchester's comings and goings from the house, plantings in the orchard, purchases of supplies and equipment, and events around the property. Excerpts from 1915 ("F.O." is Fair Oaks, where Winchester maintained another residence, in what is now Atherton): Jan 18 Mon. -- Mrs. W. came took 33 eggs Feb 28 Sun. -- Mrs. W. came for a few minutes Mar 8 Mon. -- Mrs. W. came took box oranges and about 50 eggs Mar 23 Tue. -- Mrs. W. came to stay awhile May 27 Thu. -- Mrs. W. went to F.O. for the day only Jul 23 Fri. -- Mrs. W. went to F.O. for the day only Aug 7 Sat. -- Mrs. W. went to F.O.
