John Carl Hansen was Sarah Winchester's orchard supervisor. He and wife Nellie lived at the Winchester House in San Jose (Calif.) for 28 years until Winchester's death in 1922. In his daybooks, he recorded Sarah Winchester's comings and goings from the house, plantings in the orchard, purchases of supplies and equipment, and events around the property. Excerpts from 1908: May 24 Sun. -- Mrs. W. came home Aug. 3 Mon. -- Mrs. W. went away to F.O. (F.O. refers to Fair Oaks -- present-day Atherton -- where Winchester maintained another residence) One of 16 daybooks donated to History San Jose in 2008 by Richard Hansen. Originals held at History San Jose.
