Every complete system of electrical units requires four fundamental units, the need for an extra unit arising from the fact that the identity of mechanical and electrical phenomena has not been established. The international system is of the type which contains two electrical and two mechanical fundamental units, viz. ampere, ohm, centimetre, and second.
