SINCE the Manila authorities got wing of the measures proposed by Governor DES VOEUX for the entire suppression of the sale of Manila lottery tickets in this colony they have left no stone untruned to convice us. THE British cruiser Sapphirs, Capt. Karslake, left this afternoon for Singapore. A MEETING of the Legislative Council will be held on Wednesday, the 28th inst., at 4 p.m. THE British gunboat Firebrand, Lieut. Commander Denison, arrived this morning from manila. THE Arcbbishop of Manila, say the papers received from that locality, will celebrate his golden wedding on the 18th March. 1889. AT the end of last year the poulstion of Japan was 39,069,007, of which 19,713,354 were maies.
