Control then passed to the Royal Navy. The exact date of transfer does not appear to be specified, but it appears the decision was taken in 1904 and 1905 is considered to be the last year of the service (see page 271, with further details page 272). However there are references elsewhere to Companies of the Submarine Mining Service continuing beyond 1905, for example see “Regiments of the Malta Garrison: The Royal Engineers” https://www.maltaramc.com/regmltgar/royalen.html (archived link https://web.archive.org/web/20240117194453/https://www.maltaramc.com/regmltgar/royalen.html ) where there is a reference to a Submarine Mining Company to 1907 inclusive.
