Gordon And The Mahdi: An Illustrated Narrative Of The War In The Soudan - Ernest Alfred Vizetelly (30th thousand) (Vizetelly & Co., 1885) ("yellowback" paperbound edition). Published anonymously, but written by Ernest Alfred Vizetelly (1853-1922), the son of publisher Henry Vizetelly. The text of this "30th thousand" edition was revised from that of the previous edition, making it two pages shorter. One of the changes was to remove the "concluding remarks" by the author from the final chapter. The colorful cover illustration (signed as "RCW") is by British artist and illustrator Richard Caton Woodville, Jr. (1856-1927), who is best known for being one of the most prolific and effective painters of battle scenes in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
