A complimentary calculating book from the German Savings Bank of Eldridge, IA. There are numbers and drawings on the chalkboard type pages along with a poem about the weather on Christmas Day. It was donated by Bruce Gleason who believes it belonged to his grandparents, Drs. Gleason and Gleason, both of whom graduated from the Davenport School of Chiropractic, which is now called Palmer College of Chiropractic. According to the centennial publication Eldridge - 100 Years, 1871-1971, the first bank in Eldridge was the Eldridge Savings Bank, which opened in 1899. A disagreement caused the Board of Directors to be divided, so a second bank, the German Saving Bank of Eldridge, was established in 1909. Its name was later changed to People's Saving Bank of Eldridge. During the early 1930s, because of the Depression, these two banks decided to merge. In 1934 the Stockman's Savings Bank of Long Grove was merged with the Eldridge bank and they became Central Trust and Savings Bank, because it was located in the central part of Scott County.
