About this book

Gem mining in the Mogok stone tract of upper Burma : from the annexation to the present time (with some suggestions for future operations)

Author: Brown, John Coggin, 1884-1962

Year: 1927

Above title: Confidential " Annexation of the tract occurred in 1886, and in 1887 the basic regulations governing mining in the Mogok ruby tract were issued, with the first lessee being Messrs Streeter & Co of London."--Gemology by J. Sinkankas entry no. 964. " The present report, full of carefully researched historical detail of prior mining, and replete with names, events, statistics, etc, reviews the entire span of mining from 1887 to the date of the report in 1927. This is done by describing events during the three leases in the period 1889 to 1904, under which the Burma Ruby Mines, Ltd operated. Also included is the "Supplementary Agreement of 1912," and an account of the final failure which led to liquidation of the company in 1925. The causes of failure, including mismanagement by the lessee, are described frankly and recommendations given that could be adopted by any firm wishing to try their hand at mining at Mogok in the future using "European" methods."--Gemology by J. Sinkankas, entry no. 964. " Rare, no doubt due to the security classification given."--Gemology by J. Sinkankas, entry no. 964.
