About this book

Formulae, tables and curves for computing the mutual inductance of two coaxial circles

Year: 1924

An exact formula for the mutual inductance of coaxial circles was derived by Maxwell in terms of elliptic integrals, but this does not readily lend itself to computation either when the coils are close together or far apart. For the latter purpose a large number of series formulae have been developed, and the present paper deals with a simplified method for expressing the mutual inductance of coaxial circles either in terms of the radii of the circles and the distance between them, or in terms of a parameter which is a function of these dimensions. Tables have been prepared to aid in the computation by each type, and charts are included from which an approximate value of the mutual inductance can be read directly. A number%
