The First Sunday School Reader is almost identical to the First Reader for Freedmen which appears to have been created the same year. The only differences are the front cover, frontispiece, title page, preface and pages 75-76. In the First Sunday School Reader, pages 75-75 contain a story titled The Ripe Strawberries. It includes an image of a boy that is tempted to steal some strawberries but ultimately decides against it. In the First Reader for Freedmen, pages 75-76 contain a story titled Be Kind. It includes an image of a white child helping a crying African-American child. These images were made from a book in my personal collection.
