English Patents of Inventions, Specifications, covers English patents 1-139 granted in 1617-1662, published by George Edward Eyre and William Spottiswoode, 1857. The specifications are in Early Modern English, which makes them hard to read, but they are generally understandable. What strikes me is how little attention is paid to the nature and specifics of the inventions themselves. The descriptions of the inventions are little more than a title, or a sentence or two, followed by three or four pages describing legal particulars of the patent grant, including yearly fees and in some cases a portion of the profits to be paid to the crown.
