A practical manual on the application of the principles and practice of electricity to horological instruments and machines for the measurement of time and transmission with an account of the earliest electrically driven clock mechanisms The authors in the compilation of this book have borne in mind the fact that very little collective information has so far been published on the extensive use of the electric current in the domain of horology. Accordingly they have aimed at presenting practical details rather theoretical rules of mathematical formulae, although these are naturally necessary in determining the length of pendulums, also proportioning of horological mechanisms. In descriptions of clockwork the explanation has been confined to the essential parts of the mechanism and the electrical or mechanical principles upon which they operate. Given that this publication is now 103 years old, there is a very prophetic statement in the last paragraph, which I have reproduced here. “ I n concluding this work, we may remark that electricity is a most sensitive, but at the same time powerful agent, and the day may not be far distant when the watches of the populace will be deprived of
